Fellow community resident Vincent ‘Tata’ Ford is said to have taught Bob how to play the guitar, and together penned the lyrics of ‘No Woman No Cry’ in what we now call the Culture Yard. While living at the venue, the group Bob Marley and the Wailers was formed and their first album `Catch a Fire’ was recorded. The Trench Town Culture Yard still contains personal possessions used by front men Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Bunny Wailer.

Bob moved here as a young teen with his mother, after his father’s death; this is where his musical journey is known to have commenced. The rough shantytown community will forever be immortalized by its many superstars, and too in classic songs including ‘Trench Town Rock’. Visitors enter the compound through a large wooden gate and head up a staircase leading directly to the gift shop. Treat yourself to authentic Jerk chicken at the restaurant and bar, where many light up in honor of the legend himself. The tour highlights include a visit to Nine Mile, Bob Marley’s first home and mausoleum, where you can learn about his life and legacy.

Bob Marley Beach in Nine Mile, Bull Bay reportedly got its name because he reportedly frequented the spot. Today the beach includes painted splashes of the red, green, and gold, food stalls, and a sacred meditation space for Rastafarians. All around the compound, the face of Jamaica’s beloved son gazes from portraits, murals, photos and tapestries.

Trench Town Culture Yard, Kingston & St. Andrew

The third floor of the house was Marley’s private recording studio, known as the “Tuff Gong” studio. This is where he recorded some of his most famous songs and where other reggae musicians also recorded their music. Visitors can see the original recording equipment, soundboard, and mixing console.

I saw this as a frequent complaint in reviews I read so clearly they have listened to their visitors and rectified the issue. I rate here full stars, ☆☆☆☆☆ and certainly I’ll let my future children visit earlier than 21 years old like I did 🙈. I featured the Bob Marley museum as #1 on January 9th in my 2017 bucket list so this is 3 down, 14 to go. The founder of Island Records, Chris Blackwell, bought an estate nestled in the cool Blue Mountains, known today as Strawberry Hill. One room is entirely wallpapered with media clippings from Marley’s final tour; another contains a replica of Marley’s original record shop, Wail’n Soul’m. Marley’s simple bedroom has been left as it was, and next to it is the kitchen were he'd fix healthy fresh juices. At the rear of the house you'll see the spot where gunmen attempted to kill him in 1976. The tour begins at the entrance, where visitors can see a statue of Bob Marley and the wall of fame, featuring photos and signatures of some of the celebrities who have visited the museum. The main gallery houses a vast collection of Marley’s music, including vinyl records, CDs, and cassettes, as well as awards and honors he received throughout his career.
